Macao International Carbon Emission Exchange Partners with Isometric to Bring High-Quality Carbon Removal Credits to Asia-Pacific Buyers

Release time: 2026-10-12

Press Release

Agreement makes MEX an Isometric-recognized trading platform, giving regional companies one-stop access to registry-backed credits

MACAO, 12/10/2016 – The Macao International Carbon Emission Exchange (“MEX”) today announced that it has signed a buyer agreement with Isometric, the carbon removal , becoming an Isometric-recognized trading platform. MEX will offer clients procurement and transfer services for carbon removal credits issued on the Isometric Registry, bringing high-standard international credits to the Asia-Pacific market and giving regional companies a wider route into the global carbon removal market.

The agreement sets up a formal framework for cooperation, from registration, verification and issuance of credits on the Isometric Registry to their trading on MEX. When a transaction is completed on MEX, the corresponding credits are retired directly on the Isometric Registry in the buyer’s name, so ownership is clear and every step can be traced.

“Companies in the region want carbon removal credits they can trace and stand behind, but dealing with an overseas registry directly is a real hurdle,” MEX said. “Through this agreement, buyers can buy Isometric credits on MEX and see them retired in their name.”

Isometric is widely recognized as a high-standard carbon removal. Under the Isometric Standard, projects are validated and verified by a network of independent bodies against certified protocols, with site inspections, quantified accounting and remote monitoring, so that each credit corresponds to a real, measurable tonne of carbon dioxide removed. Verification reports and underlying data are published in full on the egistry, which places Isometric among the most transparent in the industry.

Two types of trading arrangement will be available. The first is tied to long-term delivery contracts, with credits verified and issued in tranches as delivery progresses. The second is designed for spot transactions, supporting one-off purchases and fast transfers. Together they cover procurement needs of different sizes and tenors.

As carbon neutrality pledges and climate disclosure requirements tighten across Asia-Pacific, demand is growing for high-quality, traceable carbon removal credits. With this partnership, companies in the region can buy internationally recognized credits in one place through MEX, without separately engaging an overseas registry, and use them to support carbon neutrality claims, net-zero commitments and sustainability disclosures. That lowers the operational barriers and settlement risks of buying across borders.

About Isometric

Isometric certifies industrial claims that customers, investors, and regulators rely on but can’t check for themselves. Its AI-powered platform, Certify, works alongside independent verifiers to review every data point behind a claim, not just a sample, doing in hours what used to take months. Every certificate is published on Isometric’s public Registry alongside the underlying data, calculations, and evidence.

Isometric started in carbon removal, where it has been contracted to certify over 16 million tonnes, more than any other certifier in the world. It has since expanded across industrial emissions, energy, fuels, and materials. Microsoft, Anglo American, Boeing, JPMorgan Chase, and more than 200 projects worldwide trust Isometric. It is approved by ICVCM, CORSIA, and ICROA. For more information, visit isometric.com.
