MEX's Paper "Current Development Status and Prospects of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) in International Carbon Markets" Published in China Mining Magazine

Recently, the research paper "Current Development Status and Prospects of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) in International Carbon Markets", led by the Macao International Carbon Emission Exchange (hereinafter referred to as "MEX"), was published in the China Mining Journal.

Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology is a key means to support the achievement of the Paris Agreement's 1.5°C temperature rise target. However, its current single financing model struggles to meet the capital needs for the large-scale promotion of CCS technology. As an important channel to broaden capital participation, carbon markets will play an indispensable role in the large-scale application of CCS technology. Currently, the connection and integration between CCS technology and carbon markets are relatively limited, and the business model for their integration remains to be improved.

By sorting out the interaction between CCS technology and mandatory carbon markets as well as the market performance of CCS technology in voluntary carbon markets, this paper analyzes the current development status of CCS in international carbon markets. It also proposes corresponding solutions to challenges such as methodological fragmentation and inherent risks of CCS projects that may be encountered in the specific implementation process, providing references for the in-depth integration of CCS and carbon markets.

Adhering to the core mission of "serving the country's 'dual carbon' goals and building a bridge for China-international climate cooperation", MEX has continuously deepened research on international carbon market policies, technologies and practices, providing professional insights and solutions for the green and low-carbon field. The publication of this research result in China Mining Magazine once again proves the industry's wide recognition of MEX's professional capabilities and further demonstrates its research strength and industry influence in the green and low-carbon field. In the future, MEX will continue to focus on cutting-edge issues and key areas of international carbon markets, launch more achievements with both theoretical value and practical guiding significance. At the same time, it will deepen cooperation with various partners in the industry, continue to foster a high-quality carbon market ecosystem, gradually translate the net-zero vision into practical actions and tangible outcomes, and contribute to global climate governance.
